Appending "i8042.nopnp=1 pci=nocrs" to boot parameters worked for the
touchpad issue on the Lenovo V14-IIL.
Following are the steps I've followed:
1.) Open the file /etc/default/grub for editing, for example by running
sudoedit /etc/default/grub
2.) Add to the line beginning GRUB_CMDLINE_LIN

Hello nikita-tomilov... your solution worked and the trackpad is
working, but the issue i realised was that there was no kernel header
associated with the kernel and as as result VirtualBox cannot run VMs. I

trouble with the touchpad.
I adapted Ferenc's post #66 for Manjaro (Arch) and it's working like a charm.
You don't need to change that much. Just install all packages with pacman -S
cpio iasl

The only tip I can give, is that I tried @ferenc's fix while I was running
5.8.0 kernel.
It was working as expected with the regular problems.
Then I've had some issues with Virtualbox-dkms and needed to go back to
5.4.0-47 kernel version.
Suddenly Ubuntu detects the trackpad flawlessly.

You won't get any functionallity from ubuntu. Pointer events and 2
clicks that's it. Even though the touchpad get's recognized it get's
recognized as some hybrid ELAN device, which means no software can

I have tested both a 14-IIL and a 15-ILL, it seems indeed that updating
the bios / AMT does not work, for now it does not seem any corrolation
to what touchpad is in what model, so i would just commend the STA bit
out for both the SYNA2B60, and the ELAN, check if hid_i2c works, if this
is broken tr

should be used instead to decompile and recompile the acpi tables

Looks like these notebooks can have different models of touchpads (Elan,
Synatics, Alps). I did the same for SYNA2B60 (ELAN0634 left as it was)
and got a perfectly working touchapd (it has double finger scrolling for
example). For ELAN0634 your approach didn't give any result.

@Filip: I don't know. The comment box wraps the lines to 75 character
length. Therefore the sed line has broken into two lines. If you copied
the raw text from the comment into the file it wont work.
Use this version instead: (note the backslash at the end of line)

The fix worked for me!!!
Although it does not have the full functionality (double finger etc..) it still
functions as a simple mouse which is enough for me at the moment!

Hi, my pc has been on win10 for months. Was on VM a couple of month
until I got really tired of maintaining 2 setups so I deleted my VM and
now deperately waiting for a fix because I have projects that require
linux. Please help us. Windows is not better than linux but if in this

But more importantly is there any progress in finding a fix for this problem,
I feel that it's kind of ridiculous that the issue is not fixed for 8 months

Can we get an update on this issue, preferably from

anything being done to resolve it? It is marked as resolved for some
time now while actually it is not.
I'm asking this because I'll return this laptop if I cannot use Ubuntu
on it
I can confirm that the issue is still present with kernel
5.4.0-40-generic and BIOS version DJCN17WW
I bought this laptop to use it with ubuntu but it is unusable without
the touchpad. We've been waiting for the fix 5 months already. I am
ready to share any info that may help to resolve the issue.

Updated to the newer version, still can confirm the issue.Not only that
its not working but it's not detected. Can confirm also that fingerprint
sensor is missing.
Lenovo IML models got supported officialy by ubuntu, I hope that it
would be a small change for IIL models too.

I can confirm that I have the same problem with the touchpad on my lenovo
thinkbook 15 - IIL running ubuntu 20.04 kernel version 5.7.1-050701-generic
with bios version DJCN14WW and non of the fixes applied worked for me.
Will also provide any information needed in order to resolve the iss
Touchpad is still not working in latest kernels on Focal:
5.6.0-1017-oem
5.4.0-39-generic
Perhaps it should have it status changed from Fix released back to
Confirmed?
I'm willing to provide any information required to fix this issue in a
promptly manner.

I recently bough lenovo thinkbook 15 - IIL and I can confirm that the newest
version of kernel nor boot parameter updates changed the state, touchpad is the
only driver that's not found. If there is anything that you need I will provide
it instalty because I bought this laptop for lin
Touchpad is not working nor is it listed in xinput with latest BIOS
(DJCN17WW) on following kernels with or without kernel parameters
suggested in comment #39:

I just found that the kernels above do have an elan_i2c.ko with
"ELAN0634" by issuing:
for KO in $(locate elan_i2c) ; do strings -f $KO | grep ELAN0634 ; done
Nevertheless this touchpad still does not work with Ubuntu :-(

I also tested kernel 5.4.0-38, 5.3.0-59 and 4.15.0-106 without success.
I confirm that the touchpad on our Lenovo ThinkBook 15 IIL does not work. And
it is not listed by "xinput" either. I tried many suggestions with BIOS
settings, kernel parameters and reloading modules.
