I do not think this is a duplicate. My global-messages-db.sqlite is
fine, as all I did on Ubuntu 16.04 was downgrade thunderbird version.

after downgrading from 1:68.7.0+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 to
1:60.9.1+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 it works perfectly again, with the
exact same profile folder!

is not corrupted.
