This causes my wireless PCMCIA card not to work.
Using the p54pci driver, I get:

install discover any blacklist entries are ignored which are in
/etc/modprobe.d.

Hi Kano,
Thank you for your request. You might also want to add a little note
about why you want this sort of thing done. I suspect the kernel team
will not remove the pci ids from the legacy drivers. However, they may
consider blacklisting them. I'll reassign to the kernel team for their
cons
