I have the same problem on a Ubuntu Hardy Alpha6 x64, on a Dell Inspiron 1525.
My compiz-fusion is set to extras and has the cube (obviously), widgets, and
the gnome-terminal with 20% transperency, and that all the cofiguration I have
done.

the file is a jpeg image generated using a digital camera. The
appropriate plugin is enabled. And if it wasn't it should say the image
is not supported ...
