Lubuntu groovy QA-test on
motion computing j3400 (c2d-u9400, 4gb, intel mobile 4 series)
On booting 'live' system, I can now click using tablet functions to
enable keyboard & thus connect to wifi without needing keyboard
connected :)

I've only experience (that I can recall) with Xubuntu, and I can achieve
it with xubuntu (i've done it too with main ubuntu, and possibly with
other flavors [kubuntu too I believe], but not recently, maybe in 18.10
or 19.04 cycles)

I think it's safe to say that if you're trying to use it entirely
without a physical keyboard, that's probably outside of the scope of
what is intended? Do you find that other flavors work just fine?

me look here looking for bug ID)

It maybe the problem is me (user not knowing how to use fcitx keyboard).
It seems to get stuck on 'move' mode as if I'm not careful when trying
to hit a key it 'moves' the keyboard around (thus it's not in entry
mode). My attempts to get around this have failed.

Which virtual keyboard have you been testing, 'onboard' or 'caribou'? Or
both? I do not see information about it, sorry if it written somewhere
and I just did not check well enough.
My experience is that onboard is better.
