I have the same chipset in some of my computers, I don't think it will
work unless you use the -21 kernel from Hardy Proposed.

Can you try with 8.04 Hardy version of ubuntu ? There is a new broadcom
wireless driver named "b43", follow the instructions here

When you check wireless connection it never saves settings when you
reopen it the connection enable is unchecked again.

I have the same problem my wireless card "BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN
Controller (rev 03)" won't connect to the internet! I can only connect
by lan not sure if its because this is a old computer or what.

So you're using 7.04? Have you tried 7.10?
Look in System > Administration > Restricted Drivers, and see if it lists
something.
