A workaround I found from here (https://askubuntu.com/questions/1070862
/ubuntu-server-18-04-graphics-in-console-is-extremely-slow)
sudo vim /etc/default/grub
uncomment GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 and change to GRUB_GFXMODE=1027x768
then
sudo update-grub
Next disable ast driver
sudo vim /etc/modprobe.d/
