Good point Matt, thanks! Indeed, it was _some_ extension or skin (not a plugin)
that was causing system freezes. I just moved bookmarks from the old .mozilla
directory to a new one and am happy. If you want me to pursue the problem
further please shout :)

Can you try something just to make sure it's not add-ons causing the
hard freeze if you have any add ons installed of course

I don't know if it's relevant but Gutsy on my laptop is freezing left
and right. Everything was fine with Feisty. Other bug reports I filed
about freeze issues are #179813 and #179817.
