If you try to install ubuntu in any Via based notebook, it won't work. You'll
get just a black screen. It would not happen if (updated) openchrome drivers
were included on the live cd. Openchrome drivers are free drivers.
You have to work with the alternate cd to install ubuntu. But for people ne

I have an ACER Aspire 1362 with a Via S3G Unichrome Pro IGP, I could
install 5.04 but 7.10 failed to install (hung). Now 8.04 does install

confirmed for hardy.
I was able to boot removing quiet splash and appending single to the
boot options; then I dpkg-reconfigure'd xserver-xorg ; startx made the
gui come up...
