Both optical units that show this result are by LG:
-- laptop unit: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N. Capabilities: CD-R: 24x; DVD-R/DVD+R:
6x ZCLV.
-- PC unit: GCE-8526B. Capabilities: CD-R: 52x.
These models are reported in dmesg anyway. I can't run sginfo, but these
units are *very* popular.

TerryG, you're completely wrong! GNOME bug #507651 is for a completely
different issue: #507651 is about the ESTIMATED speed shown WHILE you
burn, whereas this bug is about the speed you CHOOSE PRIOR to start the
burning!
The correct upstream bug is: Bug 525501 – Brasero displays odd burning speed
Triaged to Confirmed. Being tracked by Gnome folks.
