Yes, this now appears to be fixed. Bash is not keeping the output from
the first failed command.

is this still an issue for you in Hardy?
I can not reproduce this because I do not have these pwm devices. I tried the
following and it worked as expected:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc(1)# echo "9" > /proc/sys/kernel/pid_max; echo 255 >
/tmp/pwm1; cat /tmp/pwm1
bash: echo: write err
I fail to see what the connection to bash-completion.
