Just wanted to update here ... I noticed that there is now 8.04.1 (at
least the Kubuntu version). Using that as the installation version, I
was able to get past this problem.

Hello - I have a Lenovo T61P and running into the same issue mentioned
here. I am using the Hardy Heron Alternate CD (i386). I don´t get the
option to choose the other kernels though.
The installer points to logs in /var/log/syslog. I have attached this
and a hw report of my system.

This bug *still* exists in the daily iso. The image is not corrupt, as
it passed its self-test. It's a fresh install on i386, with nothing pre-
existing. I'm using the alternate CD because the Live CD doesn't support
RAID for some odd reason.
This is a *huge* show stopper.
