I can confirm that building the Debian package from the upstream repo
with the fix Tobias mentioned work perfectly fine on Bionic.

I will try 1.10.0 later today; I assume Ubuntu would pull just that
patch to 1.9.0, I will also try to check that.

Hi Ethan, thanks for reporting this bug and using hgview. I believe a
fix has been pushed upstream https://hg.logilab.org/review/hgview but
has not yet been published or arrived in debian / ubuntu. Would you be
willing to try out an install from source to confirm this ? I've
notified the maintainer
