Thats what I think aswell. /boot should be checked if there is enough
free space and the old kernels should be removed (no need to keep so
many old versions by default)

Isn't there an automatic update to fix this problem? If an average user
wants to switch from Windows to Linux and has this problem, it would be
bad a very bad user experience and I don't think the user would like to
fix this manually.

I got absolutely the same panic as on the screen shot in comment #1

It caused by missing /boot/initrd.img-4.4.0-98-generic.
The problem was, that the /boot filesystem was almost full. I've removed
all of the old kernels wit

During the updates, I also noticed that the mysql-server package could not be
installed.
It is due to the bug

Same problem here since yesterday evening, when I accepted updates on Xubuntu
16.04 LTS!
There is a kernel panic on startup, because of package
linux-image-4.4.0-98-generic.
Hopefully I can select an older kernel by pressing the escape key.
Any ideas where it comes from? I thought the LTS release
I now ran "apport-collect 1730188" with the working kernel version
(4.4.0-97). The panic occurs with 4.4.0-98. Hope that helps.
