If the /etc/resolv.conf did not contain a message about it being generated and not to be edited, then it most likely wasn't a link to /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf as it should have been and so it wasn't managed by resolv.conf. Check the contents of the files in directory : /etc/resolvconf/run/
