The bug doesn't occur on the current mainline kernel 4.10.0-37-generic.
Me encountering this bug had to do with the fact that I was using the live
image with kernel 4.10.0-19-generic to perform the operations.
With a new live image out in a few days IMHO nothing needs to be done.
