Do you have a branch with wip code somewhere Robert? I might try take a
look Into this later when work calms down a bit

When I try to run GNOME Shell as a greeter the background doesn't render
and the titlebar pixels start to bleed together. I get the same issue
just running an X server on its own and running G-S in it.
