I also have a raid, but the raid is not for boot only storage.
Installer tried to use the raid to install grub, hope its not trashed my
raid.
Selected the actual drive and it still would not install, then crashed
completely.

It looks like grub isn't recognizing the raid array. After activating
the array with mdadm, please run grub-probe -d /dev/md/boot -vvv -ddd
and post the output.
