Same problem with HP Deskjet 1050A.
I was successfully using "lineart" mode with xsane since mid-2015, I discovered
the bug on the first days of year 2017, probably after installing a few monthes
of packages updates.
Now I have to fall back to command-line "scanimage" and then convert tiff to
pd
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
