You were right! gnome mouse properties does affect now synaptics driver. The
tap was set to off there (like I like it). enabling it fixed the problem,
without enabling needlessly one-finger tap.
This can be closed now, my mistake.

I don't have gsynaptics installed. About gnome mouse preferences I don't
know how it works - I doubt it should affect synaptics driver though -
maybe I'm wrong?
