I had the same problem. Removing the .openoffice.org2 folder did not
resolve my issue. Try:
sudo apt-get purge openoffice.org
sudo apt-get install openoffice.org
This solved my problem. If you leave your .openoffice.org2 folder as is
you will not lose any preferences which have been changed.
