I'm having the same issues. I'm running a script using udev when a
device is plugged in. And I would like to send a notification to the
current user. But this doesn't seem possible.

Hm, well... How do I send a notification under root then?
For example, I want a popup notification from one of the scripts in
/etc/ppp/ip-up.d/, launched by pppd when connection established. But
pppd is run with root privileges. And when it tries to run a script with
on-screen notification, it fai

to dbus.
