gv. "gv --debug" will not work. One version of GNU gv newer and it may
work.

Hi, I encountered the aspect ratio problem when running a virtual
console (2560x800) larger than the physical screen (1280x800). (In my
case, the off-screen portion is mapped to the VGA port.) For gv,
increasing the screen size under State -> Setup Options worked.

I am the GNU gv upstream maintainer and not related with Ubuntu at all.
Please try the following "workaround":
Go to "State - Setup Options". There you'll find "Screen size (mm)".
Double the first value. On my setup, I change it from "332 x 212" to
