I have a similar issue on xubuntu 16.04 whenever I lock the screen or
suspend the monitor. When I log back in the mouse cursor is missing.
However, when I hit alt-tab to switch applications, the mouse reappears!

It would appear that this bug affects most, if not all, ubnutu 16.04
based distros. I have installed Ubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Xubuntu, Voyager,
and Chalet OS. Same issue with all distros. It did not happen with
previous beta release.

Stream 13. Usually I do a clean installation on a different 10GB root
partition, but this time I did an upgrade from 15.10 and therefore
cannot easily revert - I'm not going to do that again.

As a workaround, I've found that switching between virtual consoles
(Ctrl-Alt-F1 then Ctrl-Alt-F7) brings the pointer back.
