I'm running Hardy, and having problems with this. To duplicate this,
you can start jack with qjackctl, and use jack audio analyzer (jaaa -J)
connected so that there should be a signal. Here are the messages I
get:

I can confirm this bug in Gutsy. I'm the original reporter of the bug in
ALSA. Can the Ubuntu team please patch ALSA until their next release
fixes this?
