2) you don't document the changes you made in the right way

When subscribing u-u-s please check that the status and assignment are set
correctly.
This bug was marked as incomplete and assigned to amachu, so no sponsor was
looking at it.
I'm changing this now myself but make sure you do it correctly next time or
chances are that nobody will look at your w

here are the steps i have taken so far,
1) Used grab-merge.sh to get the files
2) debdiff between 0.8.8-1.dsc & 0.8.8-1ubuntu1.dsc
observation: changes made to debian/control, debian/rules,
debian/changelog
3) debdiff between 0.8.8-1.dsc & 0.8.10-1.dsc
observation: changes made to debian/contr
This new debdiff doesn't make sense.
If there is nothing to be changed, it should be a sync instead of a
merge. Although reading the changes in 0..8.8-1ubuntu1, I doubt all
Ubuntu changes can be dropped.
And if it's indeed a sync, you need different procedures...

Why I don't see your changelog entry? you should add it everytime you
make a fix into a package with documenting every change you made. Plus
the debdiff between two new upstream releases is not needed, please dont
