I can reproduce a variant of this by holding my finger over the bottom
LED button and simultaneously pressing the hardware power button.
Screen will wake up by itself with each press of power button, until
bottom LED is activated again.

Ok, I've just reproduced it, not sure yet how, but bug #1556847 was here at the
same time as presumed on comment #2
spaming home button fixed the issue without rebooting.
