The last version of vncsever in Ubuntu is 3.37 which was in Gutsy. It
is no longer in Hardy/Intrepid/Jaunty (or any later release).

Same here, I googled, and found the solution in http://bugs.debian.org
/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=276948 : using vnc4server instead of
vncserver. Why isn't the broken vncserver package removed from ubuntu
then?
