I can also confirm that fabianburs fix
gsettings set com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode normal
resolved the issue for me.

I have the same issue. Shows the welcome screen only. Launching from a
terminal shows
"(python2.7:2300): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_style_get: assertion
'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed"
repeately. Followed by
"Segmentation fault (core dumped)"
