Ok, deactivating automatic brightside start in the session manager and a
log out/log in cycle solved the problem, so really brightside seems to
be the culprit here.

If so, this could be the same bug as #147531.
It happens the same to me but it seems that it's caused by brightside. My
workaround is to kill the brightside process (you should mark it to no-restart
and remove it from the session manager), change again the number of rows an
