That may be true but gedit also automatically opens a new window if
you're trying to launch a new gedit on a different workspace than the
existing one. The problem is gedit doesn't understand viewports.

Thanks for your report, If you open a file with gedit with or without
desktop effects gedit will open it inside the same window, if you want
to open it in a new one you can use it from the command line with "gedit
--new-window file", is not a bug rather a design decision.
