The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

I won't be able to test more installations at the moment. I blew up my
motherboard last week attempting to place a brand new dvd writer.
I ordered a new computer: Dell Inspiron 531 with a AMD LIVE X2
processor.
I assume that from then on I need the amd64 distro instead of the i386.

Keep in mind that I didn't test the install itself.
Just installed one distro (or tried to) and than tried to install the next one.
Never tested what happened AFTER the installation.

When I saw the error (see before), I came up to my second computer to

Tried to install the Ubuntu (Gnome) 7.10. Never worked (installed) here
before.
Hung + errors at copying files (86%), as it did before! See my earliest
documentation.
So, resuming all the previous: the bug seems to be really a Gnome thing
(perhaps according my hardware). And it started at Gutsy.
I'm trying to install the Gutsy now. Remember: it never installed here
before.
For the sake of argument, I'll try to install the Gutsy Kubuntu. (Never
tried that distro before. Official Canonical CD).
Much to my surprise it installed 100%.

Tried to install the dvd for i386.
The dvd kept hanging at bootup. Just showed the boot-up screen and
stayed there. My keyboard didn't work.
The only thing hardy did, was keeping my floppy drive busy, and that was
probably the reason that it hung.

Downloaded the daily of march 7
This time I burned it running Windows, and using my second DVD writer, to make
sure that nothing is the same as with the previous burning.
Booting will still be on the first DVD writer. (If you want, I can change that.
I should be able to boot from the second DVD.
No, I have yet not cleaned the DVD drive, but I doubt if he drive would
be the cause of the problem: I've been burning images on three different
DVD drives and the problem stays the same.
The drive's reading than... Also in doubt of that, because when an ISO

While you say you've checked the image, have you cleaned the CD drive? I
have had this sort of problem myself in the past and it turned out to be
due to a dirty CD drive lens; 10 pounds on a drive cleaning kit at a
local electronics store cleared it up nicely. I recommend that anyone

Last week I tried to install the alpha 4, which again did not install.
Today I installed the alpha 5 for i386 and this did install. It took
rather a long time though.
A few remarks:
- when booting the live cd it immediately showed the language selection
without having pressed the F2 key
- what
hdb consists entirely of my /home partition (hdb1), which wasn't being
formatted (or, I thought, touched at all), so it's odd that that should
cause the installation to fail. The installation (the / partition) was
going on hda2.

Yeah, I downloaded the Feisty CD image too.
I'm certain that the alpha 4 ISO was not corrupted because I checked it
with md5sum. It's possible that it was burned incorrectly (I used the
Brasero in Hardy) but there was no problem loading the live session.

I see the same error using Hardy alpha 3 and alpha 4.
I used the i386 desktop CD both times, burned at 2×. I used manual
partitioning to overwrite the / partition (I have a separate /home
partition on another disc).
