If you're entering the WPA key, that implies that you're using network- manager; reassigning to that package since this has nothing to do with wireless-tools. It's probable that any bugs in Ubuntu 7.10 related to WPA keys are no longer present in Ubuntu 8.10 because network-manager has undergone r
