If you're entering the WPA key, that implies that you're using network-
manager; reassigning to that package since this has nothing to do with
wireless-tools.
It's probable that any bugs in Ubuntu 7.10 related to WPA keys are no
longer present in Ubuntu 8.10 because network-manager has undergone

I found a way to solve this issue as I was have the same one. It might

The key point is the sleep command.
After making the changes in post #12 I was good to go.
This is more of a work
I too have this problem. What appears to happen is that a new and longer
WPA key is automatically generated at each reboot. Entering the original
key allows connection.

I'm experiencing the same problem after upgrading to Hardy Heron.
Wireless was working fine under Gutsy, however after the upgrade to
Hardy the wireless network still appeared to be configured in the
Network Settings dialog box however the network wasn't connected. When I

I must re-enter the wpa key after every (re)start of Ubuntu in order to
connect to the network. This is a common problem of others too
