The crash may be caused by faulty gtk-2 theme
I used Neutronium-Low found at gnome-look.org
After change there are no more crashes

I get exactly the same bug since several 2.3 versions (now I have
2.3.0-1ubuntu5.1)
Identical backtrace is thrown at the console.
