Yes i know that it is only a frontend but do you think that there are so
much changes in transcode since last release that it takes now double of
the time? dvd::rip gives transcode the argument for transcoding, maybe
the changed the arguments?

If it's only the transcode step that takes a long time, then it's
probably the backend for whichever form you're transcoding to, not
dvdrip. dvd::rip doesn't do any transcoding itself.
