The legacy driver does not support the things compiz needs. There is no
reason for that card to not work with compiz (well, except it's probably
too slow) but nvidia wants you to buy a new one so they don't add
features to the old drivers.

So, you mean that compiz will never work with this old driver or it is
just an annoying bug? I know that the card is really old (and i'll
surprise if compiz will work fine on it) but I think it's strange that
the legacy driver does not work with compiz.

Your problem is that glxinfo crashes with the nvidia-glx-legacy driver.
Not a big deal, compiz doesn't work there anyway.

I'm using a local (university) mirror of the repositories, which is
updated overnight, so I was a day behind. I've fiddled around and got
...ubuntu2 from the Ubuntu GB archive repositories.

Yesterday were released three version of compiz packages.
Last night with the compiz 1:0.6.0+git20071006-0ubuntu2 i can't
replicate the bug.
