I have no way to confirm/deny this because I have already installed
gutsy (installed feisty and upgraded), but I can say one thing, i tried
installing without migration assistant AND without mounting any NTFS
partitions, don't know if this is relevant though. But I do have one
NTFS partition.

I'm thinking it is. I had the same problem, killed mount.ntfs, and the
installer started going again. This should probably be marked as a
duplicate...
