Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. 15.04 reached EOL on February 4,
2016.

As it appears this issue was resolved in a future version of the
package, which is released for newer versions of Ubuntu
I can confirm that once I installed Kubuntu 15.10 this problem no longer
occurs.

I also have this issue running calibre 2.20 with Kubuntu 15.04. It is
able to add some ebooks but has failed with an epub I created with
sigil. The epub was validated and was able to be opened with calibre's
ebook-viewer program.
