software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. For more

As I wrote in the initial report: "This seems to be a regression in the
mainline Kernel, as the default kernel (3.13.0-44-generic) performed
this dd operation without issues - but it seems to be using a different
USB driver for the disk"
