Another use case: 64 bit base OS install running 32 bit proprietary
applications using winbind for NSS. The apps tend to freak out when they
try to do NSS lookups (ie getpwname). Sigh.

A specific use case? Sure. VMware-server. They distribute only 32 bit
binaries, and process user logins. *Any* 32 bit application that does a
directory listing or similar is a potential use case.
