I've got the same problem. Just upgraded to Hardy from Gutsy, chipset
nvidia "geforce 4" and I can't fix the correct video resolution:
when I fix manually the correct video resolution (anyway a message
appear every time saying: , after every boot, the system come back into the wrong
resolution, d
checkguy: still a problem with final release of Hardy? Can you confirm
the workaround Arnaud posted works or does not work for you?

I fixed the problem on my laptop:
fglrxinfo gave my "Mesa" info instead of "ATI", so I disable AIGLX (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24/+bug/199359)
and now fglrxinfo gives me "ATI" info and I do not have the error frame
anymore.
