I think there is something wrong with Utopic image. I had the same
problem on many other systems which doesn't suffer from 14.04.x images.
This occurs on both Dell and HP systems.

Verified with 14.10 Utopic LiveUSB, boot in UEFI mode, it works.
But in Legacy mode, it failed to boot with the following error message:
"Missing parameter in configuration file. Keyword : path" [1]
which could be solved by entering "live" and boot to the live desktop.
We will try to certify this
Install Ubuntu12.04.2 on test machine, then upgrade system to 14.04.
After upgrade accomplished, reboot system, then it will got hang. There
is only a curse on the upper left corner. So this way could not be
successful.
