I tested my monitor under VIsta and it worked fine, meaning I was

It is entirely possible that your Laptop LCD doesn't actually have 24bpp
(8 bits per channel) colour. Many LCDs, although they claim to support
24bpp colour, actually use 6 bits per channel internally. Since your
external LCD doesn't display these artifacts it suggests this may be the
explainatio
Similar problem with my Toshiba A205-S4777.
3d acceleration does work, compiz is working fine.
Also replaced xserver-xorg-video-i810 with xserver-xorg-video-intel.
