Everything is back to normal after deleting the following file (found that tip
on a newsgroup)
sudo rm /etc/X11/Xsession.d/00xserver-xgl_start-server
So it seems that xgl, or at least the upgrade of it is to blame.

My kde packages were just updated and everything is back to normal. The
problem didn't come from Xorg for me in the end.

lot of CPU.

Well, I use gutsy since some time now and xorg worked fine until
yesterday. Now my xorg is extremely slow too. Note than I have an ATi
X600 card and I tried both ati and fglrx drivers (no change except that
icons appear really weird with proprietary drivers).
