regarding this being fixed with an update. For future reference you can
manage the status of your own bugs by clicking on the current status in
the yellow
I guess this could be closed. Since there is HWE for LTS versions there
is no need to make backport releases.

With current HWE and kernel 3.16 there is no need for this workaround.
Altough it just works without gestures, multi touch or any other
advanced features. There is also no settings for TP, for example,
disable touchpad while typing.

would need to test the latest kernel (3.17).

I found a workaround which should make the touchpad work in ps/2 mouse
emulation mode.
