Posting from "2.6.22-12-generic" : ) my system is perfectly responsive,
now.
Of course, there is the side effect of acpi disabled, about power
saving/monitoring, but my ubuntu is now usable.

I've just read about bug 138423, and I'll boot ubuntu with "acpi=off"
kernel parameter.
