On my feisty system i was ablet o paste the code in just fine without
crash when starting gedit from terminal i will try GUi way as well.
neither crashed for me i was able to paste the code (just the code
block on that site) into geidt without an issue

What version of ubuntu and what version of gedit are you using. I tested
this in gedit in Gutsy and it worked fine i will attach to this bug.
