Same for me, monitor just goes to sleep mode if "vt.handoff=7" is in
place. Desktop with nVidia 650Ti, nouveau driver.

On my system (Dell latitude D420) with Intel GMA945, I needed to set
Plymouth to use the framebuffer AND to disable vt.handoff in
/etc/grub.d/10_linux .

I am also experiencing this issue, Plymouth doesn't display text or logo
themes at boot. I see this on VirtualBox and Thinkpad X61s with
integrated Intel graphics.

1343841' from an affected computer.

Forcing plymouth to use framebaffer helped in Trusty. Framebuffer no
longer works in Utopic's alphas, nor setting video options for
grub/plymouth early boot.

On HP-Pavilion-sleekbook-15 laptops , there is also the boot animation does
not show
and lenovo desktop ,does not appear either.
