Unicode support exits only from 0.22.
Currently 0.19 is the newest from repos. (Still in Jaunty.)
Workaround:
Install the following packages from Debian SID:
obexftp
libusb-0.1-4
libbluetooth2
libopenobex1
libmulticobex1
libobexftp0
It's working in Jaunty. Please include the new version in repo

same behaviour here, but i must say, really don't remember that ever
work for me.
as a way to get around this, you can set the telephone language to
English, just for the transfer.

For example for My Sony Ericsson in France, I can access to all normal
directories and all directories that have é, à, è, ù, ê, etc ... doesn't
work anymore ...
And for the Sony Ericsson some very important directories like 'Mémo
