Actually, the whole thing turns out to be a consequence of my problems with scim (see bug #131674). If I activate scim, dead keys stop to work even with the new version of xorg. Once I deactivate scim, dead keys work as expected. -- [gutsy] dead keys not working in X (gnome) https://bugs.launchpa
